THE HOMEBOUND INSTRUCTION VISION STATEMENT:

WHAT IS HOMEBOUND INSTRUCTION?

Homebound instruction is designed to provide continuity of educational services between the classroom and the home setting for students whose medical needs contraindicate school attendance. Additionally, homebound instruction may be used to supplement the classroom program for health impaired children whose conditions may interfere with consistent attendance; or children with disabilities that prevent regular school attendance. Homebound services are available to all students.

Homebound instruction is intended to be temporary. The "temporary" requirement is based on the premise that instruction should take place in the school setting to the fullest extent possible. The inability to attend school must be certified by a licensed physician or licensed clinical psychologist.

Continuity of educational services for the student while receiving homebound instruction is essential. The homebound teacher maintains regular communication with appropriate school personnel. The curriculum, including textbooks, and materials of the home school is utilized. Specific assignments from the home school are tailored to meet the student’s current needs based on physical ability as determined by the medical status.

The goal of homebound services is to facilitate the student’s return to the current classroom setting.
